What the pixel counter is telling you

Google truncates by pixel width, not character count — a title full of wide letters (W, M) gets cut sooner than one full of thin ones (i, l). Aim for roughly under 580 px for titles and under 920 px for descriptions on desktop so nothing ends in an ellipsis. The bar turns amber as you approach the limit and red once you're over.

Why titles and descriptions still matter for AI search

Assistants like ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity read the same title and meta description to decide what a page is about and how to summarise it. A clear, complete, keyword-accurate snippet helps you in classic search and in AI answers.
